Saturday, October 24th was a beautiful day for skateboarding and honoring the memory of Johnny Romano. More than 1500 people showed up to the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark to take in a day of amazing pro skateboarding. $20,000 was raised for the Johnny Kicks Cancer Foundation and 22 blood donations (which saves 66 lives) were collected by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
Some of the pro skaters that were out at the park that day included Pierre Luc Gagnon, Omar Hassan, Kevin Kowalski, Pedro Barros, Tim Johnson, Sergie Ventura, Bryan Pennington, Lester Kasai, Tony Magnusson, Jim Gray, Craig Johnson, Chris Gentry, Sky Seljig, Chris Russel and some of the women included Priscilla Lee, Carabeth Burnside, Mimi Knoop, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins and Lizzie Armanto. Local skater, Ben Raybourn showed up but because he broke his arm at the Rumble In Ramona, he was unable to skate.
This year also included live music from Blackholicus, Los Skarnales and McRad.
More info on Rock The Cradle with official contest results can be found at the World Cup Skateboarding site.

Friday night saw a lot more pros out at the skatepark practicing for Saturday’s Rock The Cradle For Johnny Romano.
Since I had to work, I missed a lot of the action that happened that day, but was glad I caught the evening sessions which included Dave Duncan, Jimmy “The Greek” Marcus, Craig Johnson and Omar Hassan!

The pros are in town for Rock The Cradle and the Jamail Skatepark was kicking last night with the likes of Magnusson, Kasai, Kowalski, Gentry, Pennington, Sky, Chris Russell, Jim Gray, The Embassy Skateboard Team and some of the guys from Cockfight Skateboards as well as many others trying to find lines and basically just ripping the park to shreds.
Tonight guarantees to be another great shred-a-thon!

After about a month from being away from the skatepark and skate photography, this past weekend I finally made it out to the park. The Embassy Skateboard team was out, over the weekend, practicing for the upcoming Rock The Cradle For Johnny Romano event.
They weren’t the only ones who were out skating, there were plenty of locals too!

These are shots from San Francisco’s Potrero Skatepark. We hit this park up on our way back from Oregon. After the Bifecta, we loaded up and headed south on the 101. A truly spectacular drive with amazing vistas. We arrived in San Francisco and promptly found Potrero. Gary and Ben tore the place up and really impressed the locals. This is the photographic evidence!

The Corn Cup was the final contest of the Oregon Bifecta. It was held at Pier Park Skatepark in Portland. The day was sunny with a few clouds and the cool breeze combined with the warm sun kept everyone happy.
The park has an awesome full pipe with a small round bowl and a huge 11 foot square-ish bowl that is similar to the square side of the Combi Bowl in L.A. – experts may disagree, but that’s what it reminds me of, and in this square-ish bowl was where most of the action took place.
We saw awesome airs and handplants, some loud grinding and board slides as well as some fireworks sponsored by Red West.
The whole contest weekend was truly memorable.

Tigard, Oregon was the place to be on Saturday the 8th of August. On an overcast day, skaters from all over came out to take part in the Crown Royale. Everybody was ripping up this awesome flow park.
The day started with the Women’s competition followed by the Masters and then the Pro’s.
Priscilla Lee, Julie Kindstrand and the rest of the women started things off and skated fiercely during their heats. The Masters were also fun to watch as these were the guys I read about in magazines as I was growing up, names like Lance Mountain, Mark Partain and Buck Smith stand out for me. The new breed of pros were fun to watch also, they used virtually every inch of the park during their runs making the judges work for their decisions.
It was a long day of skating, but fun and well worth it.
Big props to Embassy Skateboards for making this possible for me, thanks to the great state of Oregon and to World Cup Skateboarding for having such a rad event!

Having made our destination the Embassy crew decided to hit up Donald, OR for a sunset session.
I was able to use my second flash for this shoot and I think it really helped these photos.
